Ages ago I met Bob Khan, one of the guys who invented the internet, and heard him being interviewed. He was asked if he was worried about big business or nation states constraining the principles that have made the internet work. His response was that "the sorts of people who work in those organisations - if they aren't stupid before they start working there then they quickly become stupid". I interpreted this to mean that the creative mind of the benign hacker will always stay one step ahead of the institutional mindset.
Looks like Bob was right
