About this blog

This is my personal blog which I began in February 2001. I called it The Obvious? when I wrote anonymously and chose the name to reflect the fact I have to overcome my inhibitions about stating the obvious!

Ignoring the “Great Firewall of China”

Ages ago I met Bob Khan, one of the guys who invented the internet, and heard him being interviewed. He was asked if he was worried about big business or nation states constraining the principles that have made the internet work. His response was that "the sorts of people who work in those organisations - if they aren't stupid before they start working there then they quickly become stupid". I interpreted this to mean that the creative mind of the benign hacker will always stay one step ahead of the institutional mindset.

Looks like Bob was right
