Are you prepared?
Friday, June 8, 2012 at 9:15AM In a few hundred years, when the history of our time will be written from a long-term perspective, it is likely that the most important event historians will see is not technology, not the Internet, not e-commerce.
It is an unprecedented change in the human condition. For the first time - literally - substantial and rapidly growing numbers of people have choices. For the first time, they will have to manage themselves.
And society is totally unprepared for it.

Good quote. I've been meaning to read some of Peter Drucker's work. But he's been ridiculously productive. Do you have any recommendations on where to start?

Yes we will have to grow up - what a concept. When I talk about this - especially in the context of growing our own food - most come back to me and say "Well that's all right for people like you.... but what about the masses?" When I talk about each of us learning what we want to on our own tome - get the same response. When I talk about us earning a living and so on.
Euan people don't know what freedom is and it terrifies them
Funnily enough I have been reading Erich Fromm's wonderful book Fear Of Freedom. Fascinating reading about fear of freedom leading into the 2nd World War
Also thinking of Viktor Frankl - the guards had left, the camp gates were open and yet most of the prisoners huddled in the camp. The camp they knew. Freedom was the unknown - I think that many people are like that. If so, how do they go home?

That's pretty much it. Helluva challenge, given that most of the people in the business world / at work are running around working at being 'very serious', especially those charged with deciding what everyone else should be doing. They, of course, will tell you that they are indeed being grown-up, more grown up than everybody else ;-)
